Mimicat serves up flavours aplenty on Ai Coração, but it’s an acquired taste.
This has Portugal written all over it. Written a decade ago, Ai Coração has a deep-rooted and stylish composition, akin to nothing else in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. That alone will help it stand out, but little else on the track will.
The chorus – the should-be centrepoint – lacks the punch to make it memorable. Mimicat sings the song title once more with each passing chorus to signify something or other, but that might only be noticeable by reading the lyrics.
Ai Coração is cabaret and castanets. It fits perfectly in its own little box for a probable minority to enjoy.
