Azerbaijan: Fahree feat. Ilkin Dovlatov – Özünlə Apar Review

It is with flair and flavour that Azerbaijan presents its most organic Eurovision contribution.

Azerbaijan’s older Eurovision identity was a pseudo-Swedish one, lacking any real individualism. With Özünlə Apar, Fahree and Ilkin Dovlatov have ushered in a new era for the former Eurovision powerhouse.

Özünlə Apar dangles curiosity near enough to the listener, but just far enough away for it to be chased. The instrumentation is minimalist initially, but Azerbaijani elements flicker and flutter before flourishing in a crescendo with Dovlatov’s mugham charm.

Working in harmony, Fahree and Dovlatov mix old and new to show off the real sound of Azerbaijan.
