Armenia: Ladaniva – Jako Review

Armenia has leaned into its national sound by choosing duo Ladaniva for Eurovision, but Jako isn’t the televote-conquering package it has the potential to be.

Vocalist Jaklin Baghdasaryan and instrumentalist Louis Thomas merge their strengths seemingly effortlessly. The sweet voice of Baghdasaryan blends beautifully with Thomas’ work which creates memorable snippets and stings.

Jako is 2007-coded, but sounds modern and traditional all at the same time. It’s a clever mix.

But the fun stops there. There is little built-up and anticipation of the choruses. They’re thrown in almost carelessly which makes the whole track feel a little disjointed.

On snippets and hooks alone, Jako is jolly. But just having enjoyable hooks doesn’t win Eurovision.
