Single: Sudden Lights – Mēs Turpināmies Review

Latvia’s Sudden Lights have accepted the comparative failure of their Eurovision efforts on their follow-up single Mēs Turpināmies

The band didn’t live up to some expectation and crashed out in the Semi Final stage of the contest in Liverpool, but the experience has spawned a track that is an elegant continuation of Aijā

Andrejs Reinis Zitmanis’ silky voice leads the track for the first minute, falling short of the near-raspiness he displayed on Aijā. Mēs Turpināmies doesn’t need vocal grandeur – the track is the expression of the comfortable self-awareness of the band in the decisions they’ve made to reach the point they’re at now.

The song is predictably guitar heavy, making the finale of the song rush by.

With its singalong chorus, would this song have fared better at Eurovision? It honestly doesn’t matter. It’s a bright and intelligent summer cracker.
