It is no secret that Swedish broadcaster SVT’s dream is to win Eurovision back-to-back. Marcus & Martinus are one step closer to making that dream a reality.
Unforgettable is literal to its core. There is not an element, stem or layer of this track that defies its title. The hook of the track – a zoopy donk – spirals and swirls mesmerisingly. It renders the notion of captivating as prehistoric; this is far beyond just captivating.
The songwriting team of Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Joy Deb and Linnea Deb are kingmakers. Linnea’s lyrics are poetry, Joy’s production is flavoursome, while Joker adds some LA flare to internationalise the track.
The digitally charged guitar shredding in the final build effortlessly entices excitement. The final chorus that sounds like it’s about to blast off doesn’t come, but there’s an intelligence to leaving the listener begging for more. Repeat. We go again.
If SVT wanted a song to do the double at Eurovision, this is it.
