Ireland: Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue Review

Bambie Thug has carefully crafted a genre-defying song that effortlessly creates hauntingly visceral reactions.

Doomsday Blue is one of the freshest bits of experimentation Eurovision has seen in recent memory. Each of the song’s constituent parts has its reason to be present. The way the song allows each part to breathe for just long enough to leave the listener wanting, no, needing more is exemplary.

The song is intelligent lyrically. Bambie Thug casts spells on previous lovers, wishing for them to fail. Their voice is shiver-inducing.

Doomsday Blue is an illusion. It begs to be consumed and assessed again and again. Its only failing is that it may run too against the grain, confusing Eurovision audiences before they have the chance to accept, understand and embrace it.
